Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan started in 1978 to meet the government’s aim to produce students with a good grounding in Science and Mathematics and to make available a pool of students that could be trained to deal with the challenges and requirements of a rapidly developing Brunei and an ever changing world.
The setting up of a special school with selected students, the cream of the crop, gathered together under one roof would be a good way of achieving this objective. A special school like this would provide the conducive environment, the stimuli and the challenge for students to achieve their fullest potential.
Students are admitted at Secondary One (Form One) and completed their Pre-University ( Sixth Form) here. They are selected on the basis of their performance in the Primary Certificate of Education Examination taken at the end of their Sixth (6th) year in primary school. The best students in the Brunei-Muara District, those with straight A's in Malay, English, Mathematics, Science and General Paper are offered places here. Only citizens are admitted.
Introduction
of MSPSBS
Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan Science College which is also known by its Malay name, Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan, is considered as one of the best secondary schools in Brunei Darussalam. The school is renowned throughout the region for its excellent O-level and A-level results. Former Maktab Sains students can be found in universities all over the world including Imperial College, Oxbridge and the Ivy League.To gain admission to the school, students must earn straight As in their Penilaian Sekolah Rendah (formerly known as Primary Certificate Of Education).
The school has a proud tradition in interschool competitions including science, mathematics, computing, speech, debate, 'hadrah' and 'nasyid' competitions. In 2004, the school choir team managed to win the interschool choir competition; after not being allowed to join the competition for about ten years. Though the schools sports teams have not been equally prominent in national competitions, the school's basketball team has recently become a force at this level. During the early years in 1978-1980 the hockey teams and netball teams were very competitive and went to National competitions. The school has also been known to be active in extracurricular activities including a drugs awareness team.
Many of Brunei's royal family, were taught in Maktab Sains. The Crown Princess of Brunei Darussalam, Pengiran Anak Sarah was educated there where she graduated in 2005. The Sultan's granddaughter, nephews and nieces are educated there too.
The School is located on Jalan Muara, in close proximity to two other secondary level schools- Sekolah Menengah Berakas and Maktab Teknik Sultan Saiful Rijal.History

In the year, 1966, Maktab Sains was established in Brunei Town by the name Sekolah Menengah Melayu Pertama. The only levels present were Form 1, Form 2 and Form 3. In the following year, upper secondary classes were introduced. Pre-University classes were also introduced 2 years later. The late Sultan Haji Omar Ali Saifuddien III officially renamed it as Maktab Melayu Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan. The school introduced second language, English, in 1974. It then had 2 names which was either Maktab Melayu Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan or Science School. The school was again renamed in 1985 as as Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan which lasted until today. Due to the growing population, students and teachers of Maktab Sains had to move to a new campus located in Rimba while the one in Jalan Muara had to be renovated. The population moved back to their original campus in 2004. In 2007, for the very first time, Form 1 students were scheduled in the afternoon due to the shortage of classrooms. Year 7 of 2008 were the first batch to try out the scheme of work of SPN21.

"Maktab Sains Paduka Seri Begawan Sultan is a College which aims to promote full educational development and the personal well being of each student and the development of its members of staff through a sense of caring, in a trusting, safe, motivating and dedicated environment".
This College has an aim of furthering the education and students’ well self-control and also on the rise of the staff members through a sense of caring and trusting the students and encouraging them to become responsible enough to handle things carefully and maturely as a preparation before handling a harder and a bigger responsibility in the future, while developing attitudes and skills which can help in reaching educational targets for being committed to the country as well for being resourceful for the country, and also in enjoying life with the Malay Muslim Monarchy (Melayu Islam Beraja) concept.

School's Activities and Competitions. :)
Football Team
The school's senior football teams. The U15 & U18 qualified to the finals in the BJSL championship. The team went and face off St Andrews and won the game 7-0 while the U15 won 3-0. Congratulations to both teams.
Badminton Team
The badminton interschool tournament by which our college is hosting takes place in SM PAP Masna
Winnie Lim Huey Nee our u15 single girl representative made it to the second round with ease by winning a straight set game, not even breaking a sweat. Congratulations!
Abd Hazim Amin & Md Fitri Ali represented our U15 Doubles which went through such an ordeal and nearly lost their chance of advancement to the next round as they lost the first set to the opposing team but later stood up to the challenge and won the game!
However ,we have fairly a mixture of results for overall our singles, Royston (U15), Ak Irfan (U18) & Effie (U18) lost in their first game round thus being knock out of the tournament, while the doubles Sharleen & Leya Koh (U15) along with Benny Lim & Ian Lim (U18) conceded to the the next round winning their game with ease.
Choir Club
The Choir Club, named "Glee Squad", instructed by Miss Zaza, had managed to claim the championship title of the 17th Inter-school National Choir Patriotic Songs Competition which took place on April 15th at PAP Hjh Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School in Lumut They worked so hard and it was worth it! :D
Hadrah Club
The final round of the Inter-school Hadrah Competition took place yesterday in STPRI. Overall, the champion was SM Mentiri while our school only managed 4th place
Meanwhile, our college choir managed to claim the championship title of the 17th Inter-school National Choir Patriotic Songs Competition which took place on April 15th at PAP Hjh Rashidah Sa’adatul Bolkiah Secondary School in Lumut
Sports Day! :D
Our school just had one of its important event which is held every single year. It is the Sports Day! It is when every student have the chance to join in the competition like Field Event, Shotput, and even Field Performance. Students in each house, Pahlawan, Panglima, Laksamana and Hulubalang have the chances to join in competitions like Track Event (includes all sports done on the track field like running) and also Field Event and Field Performance. All teachers and students are must to join the event. Even our principle! :D
